(CNN) – Charles Chao is the man who has helped to get China micro-blogging with Sina Weibo – the country’s answer to Twitter. Around one in five of China’s half a billion internet uses are said to have a Sina Weibo account, making it a huge player in the country’s social media scene.
Chao, who graduated from Oklahoma University with a masters degree in journalism became CEO of Sina in 2006, and says that despite having around 100 million users, now is not the time to start monetizing the platform. He talked to CNN about the rise and rise of social media in China.
