(CNN) – As people look for buys that hold their value, jewelry Van Cleef & Arpels is hoping investors will take their cue from Elizabeth Taylor.

The December auction of iconic actresses’ jewelry collection at Christie’s Auction house in New York sold $116 million, breaking records. Among the pieces sold was a 1968 Van Cleef & Arpels ruby and diamond ring that Richard Burton gave Taylor for Christmas in 1968,  “which once again proves over the long term, we hold value,” Stanislas de Quercize, CEO of the jewelry company.

“Everyone raises their hand for that whether it’s Europe, Asia or America,” the chief executive tells CNN.
