(CNN) – As people look for buys that hold their value, jewelry Van Cleef & Arpels is hoping investors will take their cue from Elizabeth Taylor. The December auction of iconic actresses’ jewelry collection at Christie’s Auction house in New York sold $116 million, breaking records. Among the pieces sold was a 1968 Van Cleef & Arpels ruby and diamond ring that Richard Burton gave Taylor for Christmas in 1968, “which once again proves over the long term, we hold value,” Stanislas de Quercize, CEO of the jewelry company. “Everyone raises their hand for that whether it’s Europe, Asia or America,” the chief executive tells CNN. |

VC&A and Bvlgari were both bidding to drive up the prices (and sometimes buy back) their own brands at the Elizabeth Taylor Auction. Nice stunt and probably money well spent for the publicity in articles like this one.
You will not believe what was happening in the stadium during the match
